For a while now, I’ve been trying to figure out how to combine our hiking adventures, and my love for baking into something that was more fluid. I’ve been doing cardio posts, spin routines, and outdoor activities for a while, but it seemed kind of disjointed, and without flow.
Well, Paul, being the internet guru that he is, found the perfect product for us! BEMCO’s Backpacker Oven! I do not claim to be an outdoor survivalist, or even know what half the gear I carry in my backpack does (Paul does, and I just carry it because he tells me to!), but this oven . . . I know what to do with it!! I love it. The first time we sat down, at the top of a mountain, on a cold, grey day and I got to bite into a warm muffin, was the best hiking event ever!
Setting up the oven is simple . . . if I can do it, you can do it. I only had to practice one time off camera to get it! That’s how easy it is Everything folds up to be super compact and easy to get into a backpack. Ladies, make your man carry it! I do. Thanks Paul!
Choosing a stove is where it gets a little trickier . . . I’m talking to the baking at home people here, not the “I’ve backpacked for 50 years people” . . . because you probably already know this. We use MSR’s WhisperLite Universal Stove, and the reason we do that is because you can use pretty much any kind of fuel in it, and the burner is not attached directly to the fuel source. Why do you not want the burner attached to the fuel source you ask? Because you would BLOW UP your muffins!! And after all that work of hauling everything in on your back–what a waste!!
So we’re going to be doing a series of videos on goodies that can be baked in this oven, so stay tuned and subscribed on our YouTube channel.
I can’t wait . . . to eat . . . at the top of a mountain! It makes the hard work up the hill so worthwhile! And if I’m not food motivated (like my dog) I don’t know what I am!?
